Within only a couple months of its opening, Philly Sports Bar is gaining popularity throughout Medellin, setting the right atmosphere for people to hang out and enjoy sports.
Originally from Pennsylvania, Bill Buck, the owner of Philly Sports Bar was attracted to Medellin basically because of the weather. Although he’s not new to Medellin, he has been traveling back and forth for around 6 years before finally settling 2 years ago. Considering the previous visits to the city, plus the 7 years he lived in the Dominic Republic, adapting to Medellin was very easy for him. It is a place he enjoys because of nice people, the weather and the lifestyle.
As a retired man, Bill took the time to have fun and to analyze what to do in terms of business and investment to get the most out of his new home. With a wide experience in all kind of different business, it was about doing something he knew before and that could work in Medellin, a city that is appealing to a lot of travelers from different corners of the world. He already had experience co-owning a gogo bar and a beer bar many years ago, and considering both places did great, this time he decided to take a shot with a sports bar in Laureles.
Although Philly Sports Bar can still be considered as new, it has had very good reviews from visitors praising the food (especially the classic cheesesteak), the attention and the location. The place feels nice and cozy with a manly vibe. It’s a cool spot to get some drinks and watch sports at any time.
At the bar, they always try to improve and get people to feel welcome, so recently they created a daily special, starting with Margarita Mondays 2×1, Tacos Tuesday 2 tacos + Aguila Beer, Wings Wednesday 2×1, Tuesday Run Runner 2×1, Mojitos Friday 2×1, Saturday *Bring your honey. Her drink is on us*, and Sunday Hot Dogs for 14.000 COP. The general menu includes fajitas, burritos, nachos, quesadillas, chili, chicken sandwich, pasta, and soups.
And since with a New Year, new things come along, they’re getting ready for the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl on February 3rd. They’re also planning some extra fun with Karaoke and Trivia.
Inspired by the wisdom of his beloved parents, he has three simple pieces of advice to those adventuring on opening their own business: Be responsible, be honest and love what you do.
